1/ General Recital Information

The opportunity to perform in a recital is an exciting, empowering and confidence-building part of the training process. This is where we love to watch our students learn about the theater, rehearsals and teamwork while they enjoy the opportunity to showcase their skills in a professionally run production. Recitals are a wonderful way for students to showcase the results of their hard work and for family and friends to join in the pride of their achievement. We love giving all students the chance to perform for their family and friends in this supportive and fun environment and encourage even our youngest and newest performers to be involved. If there is any reason why your child will not be able to perform at the concert on the dates and times provided in this handbook, please let us know so we can make amendments to the class routines involving them.

Please note that unfortunately any families with unpaid dance or costume fees on the day of the recital will not be allowed to participate in our recital.

This is without doubt the highlight of our year and we are excited to show you how hard our dancers have been working!

3/ Dress Rehearsal

We at Diamond Dance Studio believe dress rehearsals are a super important part of preparing for our recital. This is where we get to see the costumes working on stage in a group to really compliment the dances. It gives us a chance to make any adjustments and ensure that everyone has time to get ready between their dances. Additionally, we can see if any costumes are missing accessories, shoes, etc.

Even more importantly, it gives the stars of our show a chance to get up and rehearse on the big stage – a very different environment than they are used to within the studio walls. They can overcome some of the jitters that may hit when the bright lights come on and really prepare themselves for the show ahead. It is a fun and rewarding experience and a great chance to play with their friends and watch some inspiring dancers as they wait for their turn in the spotlight.

DRESS REHEARSAL is MANDATORY.  If your dancer does not attend rehearsal, they will not be able to perform at the recital.

Dress rehearsal will be held at East Central School on Friday, May 20th. Students who attend their dance class in Hinckley & East Central will need to arrive ready to dance by 5:00PM, Recreational students who attend their dance class at the studio in Willow River will need to arrive ready to dance by 5:15PM, and Competition students will need to arrive ready to dance by 6:00PM.

Students should bring along their costume/s for the rehearsal. Hair and Makeup is not required for dress rehearsal.

One Parent/Guardian may stay and watch the dress rehearsal. The parent/guardian are in charge of supervising their dancer/s during rehearsal.

Parents and staff members who are volunteering to help at the recital may also need to be available for Dress Rehearsal to ensure they understand their roles and can see how everything will be run on show day.

Once your dancer/s have performed all of their routines, you may leave for the night.

We do not charge for children under 3 years old to attend the concert, unless they will be occupying their own seat. 8/ Recital Procedures

When arriving for dress rehearsal, find a seat in the auditorium and wait for further instruction. Students may sit in the auditorium seats while they wait to perform at dress rehearsal. Dancers may only bring one person with them for rehearsal. Once your dancer performs all their routines, you may leave for the night.

On the day of the show, bring your student to the small gym to drop off your belongings and then proceed to the auditorium. We will be taking a group photo of all the DDS dancers when everyone arrives at 9:30 AM. Once we take the photo, please bring your dancer back to the small gym. Students are required to stay in the small gym during the entire show. There will be parent volunteer supervisors in the small gym during the show. Once the show is over, you can return to the small gym to pick up your student. Parents are strictly prohibited from going between backstage and the auditorium during the show. Parents should either stay backstage with their dancer or stay in the auditorium. Absolutely NO traveling in between. No one should enter through the doors/curtain by the auditorium stage during the recital. When leaving the venue after the show, please clean up from your dancer and make sure their space is tidied up.  Please note that there are NO males, including dancers Dad’s, in the gym at any time.

Elite Diamonds, dancers of parents volunteering backstage, and dancers with quick changes are permitted to use the choir room as a changing room.

Dancers should arrive no later than 9:30 AM on May 21st with their hair and makeup completely done.

Only Diamond Dance Studio staff and registered parent helpers are permitted backstage (specifically backstage in the auditorium). We are unable to run messages or food to students, so please make sure they have everything before they come backstage during the recital/concert.

Please try not to bring anything valuable, especially electronic devices. Our studio and the venue will take no responsibility if an item is damaged, misplaced, lost or stolen.

Private videography and photography is strictly prohibited as we will have professionals attending on the day to provide these services for us leaving you free to sit back and enjoy the show in the moment!

Explicit language, inappropriate attire, offensive clothing and criminal behavior will not be tolerated. Consuming alcohol and smoking are not permitted.

9/ What to bring (Recital Day)

All children with multiple costumes must bring a clearly labeled bag with extra hair spray, gel, hair elastics, bobby pins, and safety pins. Please ensure any medication required is packed and clearly labeled with instructions. If your dancer only has one costume, please have them arrive in their costume so our parent supervisors do not need to help them change.

Your makeup must also be packed and clearly labeled as well as your dance shoes, dance accessories and dance underwear. Don’t forget your costumes too! These are best hung on coat hangers and protected in a costume bag that is clearly labeled. If you have a portable costume rack, feel free to bring it.

Preschool and Junior students are encouraged to bring a costume bag with a photo of them on it and their name. Some of our volunteers do not know all the performers names so this makes it easier for them to be able to find your child’s belongings.

FOOD AND DRINK - Costumes are easily ruined by food and drink stains. Students are not permitted to leave the backstage area so please pack enough food and drink for the entire time. It is important they have something nutritious to keep their energy up as well as something that won’t stain – this means NO fast food, cheese snacks and chips, etc.. NO nuts or nut products. They also need to bring A LOT of labeled water – NO soft drink or juice as it stains the costumes. This is for both the rehearsal and concert.

Children are discouraged from bringing any valuables including phones, iPods, iPads and laptops as the venue and Diamond Dance Studio will not take responsibility for any items lost, damaged or stolen.

10/Recital Etiquette

Please do not get up during the recital to take care of your dancer backstage. This is strictly prohibited. Parents either need to stay backstage the entire time or stay in the auditorium the entire time. There will parent volunteers supervising the dancers for the entire recital. Dancers must stay backstage for the entire rectial. Please do not go backstage during the recital to bring your dancer into the auditorium. If you absolutely must get up for any reason during the recital, please be respectful and leave in between routines only. No one should enter or exit through the doors/curtains by the auditorium stage.

Your health and safety are important to us and we will make every attempt to provide a safe environment for this event. As we expect to draw attendees from many parts of the state, we will monitor the statewide case rate as reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Please do not attend the show if you are feeling sick (stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, fever, chills, etc.). If you are exposed to Covid-19, please properly quarantine to keep the audience and dancers safe. Participants who have been recently exposed to COVID, are awaiting test results due to exposure, or are experiencing COVID-like symptoms at the time of the event are asked to please stay home.
